Europe's best coke, coal and steel event; register today!

Inside the conference roomOur advisors have worked hard to develop the ideal program for these uncertain times, and it includes a clear focus on costs. Many industry colleagues are facing market volatility, a market crisis in Europe, US saturation and sluggishness, BRIC slow-down, unclear path in China, and a murky path towards reform in India. Specifically, Eurocoke 2013 will focus heavily on voices from the plant manager's perspective, and address issues of cost, regulations, operations, markets and worldwide projects that have a downstream impact on the entire supply chain.

Register today to take part in these critical discussions and shape the future of the cokemaking industry!

Session #4: Plant Operations and Management

13:30 Case Study: Total Coke Battery Maintenance at SAIL, India

  • The Management of SAIL (Steel Authority India Limited) approached Fosbel to take full responsibility of all maintenance requirements on their batteries
  • The idea was to start with one battery first and based on the success of the first battery, more batteries will be added in future
  • The battery Fosbel started with, although only 8 years after a full end flue rebuild program, the life expectancy of the battery was only for a further 2 years
  • The most critical issue of the battery was severe damage to the collecting main and its structure. As a result of this, huge amounts of liquor caused severe erosion and damage to the battery structures and refractory
  • The presentation will cover not only all the challenges faced i.e. sweltering heat, union resistance to outsourcing, equipment and spares delivery problems, but also the success stories and triumphs of how a quickly dying battery was brought back from the dead.

Peet Snyders, Global Technical Director, Fosbel, South Africa
